The Mayor and City Council is the legislative and governing body of the city government. The Mayor is elected by the voters to a four-year term as the ceremonial head of the city government and the presiding officer at Council meetings. Four Council members are also elected to four-year terms and, together, the Mayor and Council pass local laws and make policy for the community, appoint the City Manager and City Attorney, adopt the annual city budget, and work with businesses and residents to create the conditions in which the community can thrive and individuals can prosper and be safe.
